Why I wouldn't sign Chris Johnson to a long term deal

Am I crazy? No, I am not and I will tell you why!

Does Chris Johnson sell jerseys and bring money to the Titans Organization? Yes of course he does!

But this is an organization that is re-building. There defense isn't as good as it used to be. They don't have a real threat at QB just yet so what do defenses have to do? Stack the box! It makes their team very very predictable to sign Chris Johnson to a long term deal.

The offense will be going through many growing pains. Their new gunslinger has to make defenses pay for stacking the box and your guess is as good as mine as too how long this will take them to do.

Also, the value of a running back is going down. They're very injury prone and with the new rules against the defense there are now more passing lanes than ever. Because of this the value of the QB has gone up even more and teams don't need that grind them down running back any longer. They need a home run hitter that can catch the ball out of the backfield. Chris Johnson is exactly that but teams can't survive just fine with a running back by commitee approach.

Sinking all that money into one position when the league is evolving into a pass happy league is somewhat suicidal. He wants to be paid like the top playmakers? I wouldn't give this man Larry Fitzgerald money. its way too easy to scheme against him.

With Larry he can make an average QB look great and a great QB into a hall of famer. Runningbacks disapear for games. Even one of the best, Adrian Peterson, can disapear for plenty of games. Remember when he broke the single game rushing record? That year he also had games of 50 yds or fewer.

With a WR as amazing as Larry Fitzgerald yeah he may disapear but what he does to opposing defenses makes his teamates look better. Even if you double team Larry someone else will be open to make the catch.

If you stack the box and make Jake locker throw the ball Chris will disapear and Jake may or may not have a good game. The offense becomes so predictable. Even if you scheme against Larry it will not only open up other recievers or tight ends but also will create running lanes for a teams runner which can also make and average RB look great! When the defense is on its heels and playing further back from the line then it puts them at a disadvatage.

The Titans don't really have a big play receiver. Yeah, you could say that gang banger with speed they have up there is big play but you can't make plays when you're suspended. Also, guys like that have poor mental focus so they will show up one year and disapear others.

So with all that being said I would trade CJ and not give in to his contract demands. They have a young hot shot QB to build around now and thats what you need in this day and age to make it in the NFL. Not a running back..................
